St. Paul's Lutheran Church is part of the larger Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. At the present time we have an average worshipping attendance of approximately 145. Gathered as the Body of Christ in Funkstown, a community of about 1,000 residents just outside of Hagerstown, MD, we envision our work as Faithful Disciples Serving in Christ’s Name. Achieving our vision involves our discerning God’s purpose for our congregation:
In living out God’s purpose for our congregation, we hold these values:
1. Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior and reveals God’s love for God’s people.
2. We grow in faith through frequent worship.
3. People of all ages are fed in their faith through regular Bible study and a variety of learning opportunities.
4. We respond as Christ would in caring for others in our community in the name of Jesus Christ.
5. Our lives are enriched as we spend time with one another in fellowship and support.
6. As people blessed by a diversity of our God-given talents, we welcome persons of all racial, cultural, economic, educational and ethnic backgrounds to join in our mission and ministry.
Our church family is open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and welcomes persons of all racial, cultural, economic, educational, and ethnic backgrounds. We are committed to being a compassionate community of believers who are reverent in worship, spiritually free, humanly diverse. We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, goodness and love; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, who for us and our salvation, lived, died and rose again to live forevermore; and in the Holy Spirit who takes of the things of Christ and reveals them to us.
